  5. The malloc debug library shipped with NEXTSTEP Release 3.2 inadvertently was compiled with a setting that nullifies the checking for damaged memory regions.  This version of libMallocDebug has no changes, other than being compiled with the flag on, so it reinstates the checking. This library is a multi-architecture binary, both Intel and Motorola are supported.  You can use lipo(1) to thin the library if desired.
